New Rules Make Security Gates Safer for Kids

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has adopted a new safety standard intended to help prevent children from becoming entrapped and injured in automatic security gates.

The stricter safety standard requires that automatic gate systems have at least two mechanisms to prevent entrapment, a standard similar to those for automatic garage doors.

The standard was developed by Underwriters Laboratories in cooperation with the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Assn.
