Pope John Paul II this week praised the work of those who volunteer their services for charity, calling them a humanizing force that opposes the individualistic selfishness of rich Western society.
Addressing the group that coordinates Catholic aid worldwide, the pontiff said the phenomenon of volunteerism “awakens so much energy for the good today in the church and in the world.”
