Supporting the Arts

Re “Bridging the Artistic Gap for Students and Teachers,” Feb. 6: The ArtsBridge program is a huge asset to the schools that are lucky enough to have it in their curriculum, and there is an alternative to keep this program alive, to help more schools and allow more college students to participate. The UCs should offer students college credit, in lieu of an honorarium, as a part of the program. This would not only solve the problem of possible budget cuts, it would also allow more schools and students to become involved. Why give $1,000 scholarships for an internship that could be done free? There is such a shortage of funds in the school system as it is; the money could be spent better elsewhere.
