Voting Machines Arrive: No Chad, New Problems

From Times Wire Reports

The voting machines that Broward County, Fla., ordered to replace its problematic punch-card system with the notorious chads have their own glitches. More than two-thirds of the first batch were defective, county officials said in Fort Lauderdale.

About 70 of the first 101 ATM-style touch screen machines had dim monitors, making it difficult to read the screens. On other machines, buttons didn’t light up or legs didn’t attach correctly.

Broward County ordered 5,000 voting machines to replace its problematic punch-card system before this year’s primaries and gubernatorial election.
