Law to Pay Called-Up State Employees Signed
Gov. Gray Davis signed legislation Wednesday to reimburse state employees for lost wages when they are called up for National Guard duty.
The federal government pays the difference between members’ salaries at their jobs and their military pay for the first six months of active duty.
Under SB 711 by state Sen. Joe Dunn (D-Santa Ana), the state will reimburse Guard members who are state workers for the next six months. Davis estimates that the legislation affects 500 state employees who have been activated, at a cost to the general fund of about $3 million.
