Brooks’ Boys Are Facing the Finnish Flash

The U.S. men’s hockey team, on home ice for the first time in the Olympics since the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” at Lake Placid, will play the late game tonight, facing off against Finland and Teemu Selanne, the former Ducks’ star now with the San Jose Sharks.

Herb Brooks, the same U.S. coach as in 1980, will have a vastly different team to send out, all drawn from the professional ranks of the NHL. Among the stars on the team are Adam Deadmarsh of the Kings, Jeremy Roenick of the Philadelphia Flyers, Mike Modano of the Dallas Stars and Brett Hull of the Detroit Red Wings.

U.S. forward Bill Guerin of the Boston Bruins, speaking at a news conference Thursday morning, said, “We’re going to have our hands full. The game with Finland will be a good game.”
