Regime Issues Warning to U.S. Amid Celebration
North Korean military officers and party cadets rallied to celebrate leader Kim Jong Il’s 60th birthday, calling for heightened vigilance after President Bush’s condemnation of the Communist regime.
“If the U.S. imperialists and their followers dare provoke a war in this land, it will lead to their final destruction,” said Kim Yong Nam, widely seen as the country’s No. 2 leader.
North Korea’s state-controlled media said baskets of flowers were flowing in from around the world for Kim, “the sun of the 21st century.”
