Get Used to Ups and Downs of Gas Prices

It was only a few months ago that gas cost about $2 a gallon, so how can people now complain about a $1.20 price because they got “used” to the brief $1-a-gallon cost [“Region’s Gas Price Hikes Expected to Slow,” Feb 2]?

It is ludicrous to expect gas prices to do anything but fluctuate a lot, but eventually increase as world supplies decrease, our consumption increases, and local refining is limited by (reasonable) pollution controls.

And as for the individuals interviewed, I know that everyone’s situation is different.

But why isn’t the man commuting from Riverside to downtown L.A. using Metrolink trains?

And why is the UCLA student driving an SUV to work and to school? If the cost of gas is restricting her social life (or even if it isn’t), she should be driving a more fuel-efficient vehicle.
