NEW YORK —
The owner of a cosmetic surgery clinic was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison Wednesday for scheming to cheat health insurance companies out of millions of dollars.
Sonia LaFontaine was convicted in July in federal court of all 17 counts against her. They included conspiracy to commit mail and health-care fraud, witness tampering and engaging in illegal financial transactions.
She was also ordered to pay nearly $920,000 in restitution to a group of insurers.
