Condit’s Wife Sues National Enquirer
The wife of embattled California Rep. Gary Condit filed a $10-million lawsuit against the National Enquirer Thursday, alleging the tabloid newspaper libeled her when it said that she had “attacked” missing intern Chandra Levy.
In the suit filed in U.S. District Court here, Carolyn Condit said the National Enquirer’s Aug. 7 story falsely insinuated that she had played some role in Levy’s disappearance.
“Carolyn Condit, however, has never attacked, met nor spoken to Chandra Levy, ever,” her lawyers said in a statement.
Officials at American Media Inc., which owns the National Enquirer, were not available for comment.
