Jewish Group Opposes Plan for Faith Initiative
WASHINGTON--The American Jewish Congress became the first major American Jewish group to oppose Sen. Joseph Lieberman’s compromise plan to revive parts of President Bush’s “faith-based initiative.”
Lieberman (D-Conn.) and Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) unveiled the plan this month. Among other things, it would provide incentives for increased charitable giving and allow religious groups to apply for government funding.
