Term Limits

Share

I agree completely with your Feb. 19 editorial opposing Amendments A and B. I have never been in favor of term limits, and for good reason. Term limits, in effect, disenfranchise the voters; those who favor limits only think they are assuring a better representation by those elected.

I worked in L.A. city government for 36 years and can tell you from experience that government works best when the elected representatives know their way around. There is a lengthy learning period for all new legislators, so that those who know the most are the ones who really “run” the government--and those are the career employees and the lobbyists, neither of whom are elected by the people.

Whatever happened to the concept of voting them out of office if they’re not doing their jobs to the voters’ satisfaction? We should eliminate all term limits anywhere as soon as possible.
