Driver Must Apologize to Woman Left in Swamp
A driver who knocked an 83-year-old woman’s car over a railing and into a swamp, where she lay for three days before being rescued, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Scott Campbell, 23, also pleaded guilty to making a false police report. He told state troopers he had hit a concrete wall.
Campbell is expected to be sentenced today to five years of probation. He must also apologize in court to Tillie Tooter, now 84.
To survive the three-day ordeal in August 2000, Tooter ate a cough drop, a peppermint and a piece of gum. She absorbed rainwater with golf socks and sucked on them to avoid dehydration.
