Gary Payton slowed it down, his teammates picked it up and the Seattle SuperSonics walked off with another win.

Payton scored 26 points Monday night at Chicago, leading Seattle to its eighth win in nine games, 100-88 over the Bulls.

“I rushed my first few shots, and I realized I had to slow down because the shots were there,” said Payton, who was four of 10 from the field in the first quarter and eight of 15 thereafter.

The SuperSonics also dominated the Bulls inside, getting 48 points in the paint.

The Bulls have lost four in a row.

San Antonio 90, New York 79--Tim Duncan made four free throws in the closing minutes and scored 21 points as the Spurs held off the Knicks at San Antonio.

Minnesota 109, Detroit 93--Kevin Garnett scored 23 points and Gary Trent had a season-high 20 at Minneapolis as the Timberwolves won their fifth in a row.

The Timberwolves erased an early seven-point deficit with their most productive quarter of the season. Minnesota scored 38 points in the second quarter, with Trent scoring eight during a decisive 27-10 run.

Orlando 98, Boston 87--Mike Miller had 27 points and nine rebounds at Orlando, Fla., as the Magic won its third straight.

Orlando (18-18) reached the .500 mark for the first time since Dec. 13.

Portland 98, Cleveland 72--Seven of Dale Davis’ 15 rebounds came at the offensive end at Cleveland as the Trail Blazers dominated every aspect in winning the first of four road games in five nights.

Charlotte 94, Denver 80--P.J. Brown, who missed the Hornets’ previous game because of a sprained ankle, had a career-high 22 rebounds at Charlotte, N.C.

The Hornets scored 44 points in the paint and outrebounded the Nuggets, 61-35.

Michael Jordan’s wife has filed for divorce, seeking to dissolve her 12-year marriage to him, the Chicago Tribune reported on its website.

In a petition filed Friday in circuit court in Waukegan, Ill., Juanita Jordan cited “irreconcilable differences” in seeking a dissolution of her marriage to Jordan.

She seeks permanent custody of the couple’s three children, the 25,000-square-foot “marital residence” in Highland Park and half the couple’s property.

The Phoenix Suns signed guard Joe Crispin for the rest of the season and waived center Daniel Santiago.... The Toronto Raptors waived rookie point guard Carlos Arroyo.... The Atlanta Hawks waived forwards Mark Strickland and Reggie Slater.
