From Times Staff Reports

About 40 oak trees that are to be cut in the next few weeks to make way for the Lang Ranch dam could get a reprieve while a county supervisor studies critics’ concerns.

Supervisor Kathy Long on Tuesday asked that plans be put on hold until she can review the project with public works officials. Her request came after dam opponents asked the Board of Supervisors to consider their concerns about the dam’s size and location.

“I’m not trying to indicate to the community that there’s a change on this project, but I’d like to get these questions answered,” Long said.

County flood control officials have said the dam is needed to protect homeowners and habitats downstream in the event of a 100-year storm.
