VW Issues Recall For Emissions Problem

Share

Volkswagen of America said it will recall 324,000 Golf, Jetta and New Beetle models to repair a potentially faulty emissions system.

The recall was instituted after the federal Environmental Protection Agency cited VW for the emissions violations.

Affected vehicles are from the 1999 through 2001 model years and were built with 2-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engines.

The EPA said its tests of 1999 models showed that an oxygen sensor malfunction caused elevated emissions. Sensors on the 2000 and 2001 models could have the same defect.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and asked to bring their cars to a nearby dealer for repairs.
