A year after officials were fretting about a dwindling water supply and discussing rationing, winter rains have replenished the Loch Lomond reservoir to the point that it is overflowing.

Last month, 18 inches of rain fell in the Newell Creek watershed, which drains into the reservoir.

“The reason it’s a big deal is everybody looks at it as an indicator of the water health of the community,” water director Bill Kocher said. Still, it’s only about 20% of the city’s annual water supply.
