Pair Arrested on Train Are Charged With Fraud
Two men who were arrested on a train in Texas carrying box cutters and hair dye a day after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were indicted for conspiring to commit credit card fraud.
Ayub Ali Khan, 36, and Mohammed Azmath, 38, were named in two separate indictments in Manhattan federal court. If convicted, they could face five years in prison.
They boarded a plane in Newark, N.J., bound for San Antonio on Sept. 11. When the flight was halted in St. Louis because of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, they boarded the train.
They were arrested in Fort Worth after police found they were carrying two box cutters, hair dye, a knife and $5,500 in cash.
Investigators believe that terrorists used box cutters to hijack the airliners used in the Sept. 11 attacks.
