City OKs Rules to Control Buses

From Times Staff Reports

Having failed to persuade Greyhound Lines not to move a bus terminal to a Mission Hills mall, City Council President Alex Padilla won approval Tuesday of rules meant to keep buses out of adjacent residential neighborhoods.

The council approved a measure to put up signs banning vehicles weighing more than 6,000 pounds from using Rincon Avenue between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Pearwood Avenue, to order police enforcement and to investigate whether the limit should be extended to part of Rinaldi Street.

Padilla had asked the firm not to move its terminal from San Fernando to La Rinda Plaza, but an aide said the property is properly zoned for the use.

“The next step is actual enforcement of weight limitations on streets to protect residential neighborhoods,” Padilla said.
