Cuba to Gain Interpol Link
Interpol’s secretary-general said Wednesday that he thanked Cuba for condemning the Sept. 11 terror attacks and would help connect the country to a global police network battling international terrorism and other crime.
“There cannot be any countries in the world that do not participate in the fight against terrorism,” said Ronald K. Noble, an American who heads the international police agency based in France.
“Cuba has indicated its commitment” to participate in that fight, Noble told a news conference at the end of a three-day visit.
He said Interpol would provide Cuba with the equipment necessary to connect to a global database.
Once Cuba is connected in an estimated six to nine months, Nobel said, the Communist island will be invited to join the Interpol’s 179 member nations in sharing intelligence on crime.
