From Times Staff Reports

A challenger to incumbent Judge Ronald C. Kline, who has been charged with molestation and possessing child pornography, has asked the Board of Supervisors to take Kline’s name off the March 5 election ballot because he allegedly submitted invalid nomination documents.

Gay Sandoval, a write-in candidate, said at least one of the signatures on Kline’s nomination papers, that of Judge William R. Froeberg, was mistakenly included.

Froeberg said he overlooked Kline’s name on the papers when he and other judges running for reelection held a “signing party” about two weeks after the first charges against Kline were filed.

Supervisor Chuck Smith said that the board lacks the power to take Kline’s name off the ballot.
