North Could Be Rebuilding Rail Link

From Times Wire Reports

North Korea may be rebuilding a railroad leading to South Korea that was destroyed during the 1950-53 Korean War, the South Korean government said.

The semiofficial Yonhap news agency said the Defense Ministry had observed the North Koreans building barracks and moving construction troops near the destroyed railroad. A pledge to rebuild the railroad was part of an agreement struck in June 2000 when South Korean President Kim Dae Jung visited the North’s capital, Pyongyang. But the reconciliation process broke down last year.

A South Korean government official said North Korea needs to repair eight miles of railroad for the train link to be restored.
