Man at Airport Held on Weapons Charges
British police arrested a man trying to board a flight to the United States after a knife was allegedly found in his socks, a spokeswoman for London’s Heathrow Airport said.
The Briton, who has been charged with a weapons offense under aviation security laws, was stopped at a routine security checkpoint while trying to board a British Airways flight bound Wednesday for Seattle.
A police spokeswoman identified the man as Ian Ashley, 54, a racing driver instructor from Newark in Nottinghamshire, central England. He was released on bail pending a court appearance Feb. 1.
