146 Illegal Immigrants Found in Banana Truck
Mexican federal agents discovered 146 illegal immigrants from Central America hidden behind banana boxes in a truck in the northern state of Nuevo Leon, Reforma newspaper reported.
The 119 men and 27 women had been standing in the truck for 38 hours after paying a driver to take them to northern Mexico.
Officials said 103 were from El Salvador, 37 from Guatemala and six from Honduras, all apparently hoping to cross into the U.S. to look for work. Mexican policy is to return such illegal immigrants to their home countries.
