Roquemore Leads Irvine Valley College

Glenn R. Roquemore, officially becomes president of Irvine Valley College today, following his appointment last week by trustees of the South Orange County Community College District.

Roquemore, who had been vice president of instruction at the college for the past two years, was chosen to head the two-year college after a nationwide search, said officials for district, which includes IVC and Saddleback colleges.

Raghu P. Mathur, IVC president until he became chancellor earlier this year, said Roquemore “knows, understands and is qualified to address the needs of the college,” which saw near-constant discord between faculty and administration during Mathur’s presidency.

In a statement, Mathur said Roquemore brings to his new position “an extra dimension of experience in technology, in addition to strong interpersonal skills to work with all internal and external constituencies.”

Roquemore said he felt honored “to have gained the trust of the board of trustees, the chancellor and the college. I appreciate the support of the faculty, staff and administration of Irvine Valley College.”

Before moving into administration, Roquemore had 27 years of academic and research experience in geology and geophysics. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cal State Fresno, and his doctorate from the University of Nevada. He has taught at Cal State Long Beach, San Diego State University, and was a lecturer at UC Irvine for seven years.

Roquemore joined Irvine Valley College in 1990 as professor of geology, and was named vice president of student services in 1998, and vice president of instruction two years ago.
