Ford Motor Co. has asked 52 top corporate officers to sign an agreement barring them from defecting to another major auto maker for two years.

In return for their pledge, which is voluntary, executives receive stock options that could prove lucrative should Ford’s slumping shares rebound.

Ford shares fell 30 cents to $12.50 on the NYSE.
