Honoring Rod Steiger

Kudos for your extensive July 10 obituary on Rod Steiger, “Method Actor Infused His Roles With Raw Intensity.” In that piece, Times film reviewer Kevin Thomas correctly asserted that Steiger’s commanding best shone through even in the supporting roles of his later years. At the time I had not yet viewed his earlier films, but his gritty 1996 turn as a corrupt former Detroit cop trying to help his son (played by Ken Olin) in Paul Haggis’ pilot for “EZ Streets” inspired me to do so. Wow. A lion has indeed left the circus.
