Sanchez’s Conditions for Guilty Plea Rejected
A Ventura County Superior Court judge has denied a request by serial rapist Vincent Sanchez to plead guilty to murder without specifying the degree of the crime.
After Judge Ken Riley’s decision at an arraignment hearing Tuesday, defense attorney Neil Quinn declined to enter a plea on behalf of Sanchez.
Riley then entered a not guilty plea for the defendant.
A trial date was set for Sept. 16.
Sanchez, a 31-year-old unemployed handyman from Simi Valley, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted rape and attempted kidnapping in connection with the July 2001 shooting death of Megan Barroso, a 20-year-old student at Moorpark College.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Sanchez has previously pleaded guilty to numerous rapes and sexual assaults.
