Authorities detained another suspected member of Al Qaeda in a widening operation against a Spanish-based cell that might have played a key role in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, police said.
Kamal Hadid Chaar, a Syrian-born Spanish citizen, was being held in Madrid, police said, adding that they were studying documents taken from his home. The police said he was implicated in fund-raising activities for Al Qaeda.
Three suspects were arrested Tuesday, including one who had allegedly videotaped U.S. landmarks, including the World Trade Center.
