UCLA’s Henderson Captures World Title

Monique Henderson of UCLA defeated fellow American Sanya Richards to win the women’s 400 meters at the World Junior track and field championships Thursday in Kingston, Jamaica.

Henderson finished in 51.10, with Richards at 51.49 and Sheryl Morgan of Jamaica third in 52.61. Sean Shields, an Arroyo Grande High graduate attending Arizona, finished eighth in the discus Thursday. He was second in the shotput at 67-4 1/4 on Tuesday.

The meet, which runs through Sunday, is the highest level for athletes under 20 years old.
