There’s No Reason for Him to Go Postal

Share

Regarding “Check’s in the Mail” [July 17], why is Lance Pugmire giving press to a man as stupid as Tom Schatz?

Mr. Schatz is upset that the U.S. Postal Service is spending .04% of its annual budget to sponsor the No. 1 cyclist in the world, Lance Armstrong, and his team. Yes, that’s .04% not 4%. Nevertheless, Mr. Schatz complains that even this minuscule devotion of resources is wasteful government spending.

However, as the article itself clearly states, the U.S. Postal Service is not government subsidized nor has it been since 1971. So what in the world is Tom Schatz complaining about and why is the L.A. Times giving him a forum?

If last month’s three-cent stamp increase, which will generate $1 billion in added revenue, costs every American family 45 cents a month, tell me where to send a check for 0.23 cents to government watchdog Tom Schatz so he can get over the $6.25 million “wasted” by the U.S Postal Service to keep Lance Armstrong & Co. kicking butt in the Tour de France.
