A national home builders group has ended its Sept. 11 relief effort after distributing $10 million to victims of last fall’s attacks.

The Home Builders Care Victims’ Relief Fund was established by the National Assn. of Home Builders, with the assistance of its philanthropic arm, the National Housing Endowment.

To launch the fund, the home builders’ group pledged $250,000, and its employees donated $60,000. The endowment provided an additional $125,000. More than 5,000 members of the home-building industry contributed to the $10-million total, with some builders each giving $1 million.

About 89% of the funding went directly to victims residing in New York City, in the form of mortgage grants, rent and other housing-related expenses.

About 3,000 families in the greater New York area received assistance. Another 10% went to a survivors’ fund.
