Broken Pipe Causes Flooding in School

Two basement rooms housing swimming pool equipment and chemicals at Ventura High School were flooded early Monday, fire officials said.

The flood was caused by pipes that broke overnight, releasing about 2 million gallons of water. The pipes had been connected to an old boiler that was recently removed during the remodeling of the school’s gymnasium.

By Monday evening, workers were still pumping water from the basement. Fire officials say it may take another day to estimate the cost of the damage. In addition to the pool equipment, the room contained heaters, a transformer and several electrical panels.
