Developers of Oxnard’s $750-million RiverPark mini-city have come a step closer to starting construction this summer.

The city Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the 2,800-home development Thursday night. The City Council will consider it Aug. 27.

A heavily landscaped residential and business development, the project was praised by planning commissioners for its extensive use of green space in neighborhoods and commercial areas.

There are to be 10 parks, some with soccer and baseball fields, walking paths and children’s play areas.

In addition, a reservoir would be created from old gravel pits on the property.
