Towboat Pilot’s Heart Ailment Disclosed
From Times Wire Reports
Joe Dedmon, the towboat pilot who said he blacked out before his barge struck an Interstate 40 bridge, killing 14 people, has a heart blockage he didn’t know about, an official said.
Ken Suydam, a National Transportation Safety Board investigator made the comment about Dedmon, 61, at a closed meeting Friday, the Muskogee Daily Phoenix reported.
The barge being pushed by his towboat hit the bridge over the Arkansas River and knocked out a 500-foot section, sending several vehicles into the water.
