PricewaterhouseCoopers named Greg Brenneman president and chief executive of its consulting unit, replacing Tom O’Neill.

O’Neill, 57, becomes chairman of PwC Consulting, handling the separation of the consulting business from its accounting firm parent, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the company said in a statement.

Brenneman, 40, will report to Samuel DiPiazza, the accounting firm’s chairman, until PwC Consulting, which provides management and technology advice, is separate. After that, Brenneman will report to PwC’s board.

Brenneman served as president and chief operating officer of Continental Airlines Inc. between September 1995 and May 2001, helping CEO Gordon Bethune rebuild the Houston-based carrier after two trips through bankruptcy.

A year ago, Brenneman, a Harvard Business School graduate, returned to TurnWorks Inc., the private investment company he founded in 1994, as chairman and chief executive. Brenneman previously worked at Bain & Co., specializing in corporate turnarounds.
