From Times wire reports

Wildfires threatened dozens of homes in southern Colorado, forcing several evacuations.

A fire near Canon City covered about 200 acres and destroyed at least one structure, according to the U.S. Forest Service. At least two subdivisions 12 miles to 15 miles south of Canon City were evacuated.

The Fremont County sheriff’s office didn’t know how many homes were evacuated, but Red Cross spokeswoman Pat Donley said volunteers were told to prepare for as many as 1,000 people.

A fire southeast of nearby Trinidad burned more than 2,800 acres, forcing the evacuation of eight ranches and destroying at least one home.
