‘Democracy at Its Worst’

Re “How Big a Corporate Disaster Is Needed?” Commentary, May 31: Bravo, Arianna Huffington! Are she and I the only ones to express shock and rage over what Congress and the administration are doing (or not doing) in the aftermath of the Enron/Andersen scandal?

Why isn’t there a national uproar of indignation? Why aren’t all the politicians, from President Bush on down, following through with the appropriate restraints on corporations and accounting firms? Alas, I think we all know why. Follow the money. This, as Huffington says, is “democracy at its worst.”
