Re “Delgadillo Writes Bush, Raps INS Role for Police” (June 4), on L.A. City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo’s recent announcement that he will fight federal efforts that would require the LAPD to enforce immigration laws: Bravo, Mr. Delgadillo. Perhaps we can now start on the high road, showing that we understand the difference between social problems and criminal ones.

Dare I dream that he may inspire us to discard the wasteful and unwinnable war on drugs and also treat it like the social problem it really is? And dare I dream that we address the terrorist problem through changes in our seriously flawed foreign policy, not through increases in immigrant policing? I dare to dream, sir, I dare to dream.
