Man Sought in Idaho Kidnapping Kills Self
A man suspected of abducting a 14-year-old girl fatally shot himself after officers chased him into the mountains, police said Thursday.
The teenager had freed herself and escaped from Keith Glenn Hescock’s home Wednesday after he left for work, Bonneville County Sheriff Byron Stommel said.
The girl, from rural Idaho Falls, was abducted early Wednesday while she slept outside her home on a trampoline with her sister.
Deputies and a SWAT team were waiting outside Hescock’s home Wednesday afternoon when the tool salesman arrived home from work. Hescock, 42, sped away in a truck and into the nearby mountains.
Police chased him about 35 miles northeast of Idaho Falls until the road ended at a trailhead, where Hescock’s truck got stuck on top of a pile of dirt, Madison County Sheriff Roy Klingler said.
Hescock shot and killed a police dog that approached his truck and exchanged gunfire with several deputies, wounding one in the leg, police said. Hescock then killed himself.
