From Times Staff Reports

The Wolf fire in Los Padres National Forest was 85% contained late Wednesday, and fire officials were anticipating total containment by early Friday evening.

For a third straight day Wednesday, firefighters held the blaze to 21,278 acres while a fleet of helicopters dropped water and fire retardant, said Joe Pasinato, a U.S. Forest Service spokesman.

More than 1,200 firefighters were battling the blaze but officials were gradually releasing personnel, many of whom will be reassigned to major fires in Colorado.
