The Brewers lost two outfielders to injuries Monday night and Jose Hernandez homered and drove in four runs off Roy Oswalt in Milwaukee’s costly 5-2 victory over the Houston Astros.

Geoff Jenkins dislocated his right ankle and tore ligaments in the joint and Alex Sanchez sprained his left hand and bruised his left knee.

Jose Cabrera (3-4) gave up two runs and five hits in a career-high six innings, and the Brewers (24-45) moved past the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (23-44) out of the major league cellar.

But the Brewers were in no mood to celebrate after losing Jenkins, one of their clubhouse leaders, and Sanchez, their speedy rookie.

Jenkins hurt his ankle lunging back to third base in the second inning. He was carted off and taken to a hospital for X-rays, which were negative.

He’ll undergo an MRI today to determine the extent of damage to torn ligaments and tendons, team physician William Raasch said.

Sanchez, who was chasing a ball hit by Lance Berkman, sprained his left hand and bruised his left knee running into the railing down the left-field line. Berkman scored on an inside-the-park homer.

Two trainers carried Sanchez off the field through the left-field gate.
