Car Bombings Rock 3 Sites in Spain Amid EU Summit

MADRID — Car bomb explosions bearing the hallmarks of the Basque separatist group ETA rocked two Mediterranean resorts and a major northeastern city Friday as European Union leaders met under tight security in Seville.
A British tourist was critically wounded and five other people were hurt by flying glass when the first explosion shook the Spanish resort of Fuengirola, 90 miles southeast of Seville.
Six hours later, a bomb detonated in the center of Marbella. It caused no injuries.
A blast Friday night rocked Zaragoza, 530 miles northeast of Seville, the Interior Ministry said. Police said a security guard was slightly injured in the explosion in a department store parking lot.
As in recent ETA bombings, callers claiming to speak on behalf of the outlawed group gave detailed warnings before each blast. Police said they received warnings that ETA, which stands for Basque Homeland and Freedom, planned to attack tourist targets during the EU summit.
