From Times Wire Reports

Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi launched a weeklong trip today to meet with members of her pro-democracy party in her first political trip outside the capital since her release from house arrest last month, a top party official said.

Among the places she will visit is Natmauk, the hometown of her late father, Gen. Aung San, the country’s founding father.

Suu Kyi was put under house arrest in September 2000 for attempting to leave the capital, Yangon, to conduct political organizing. She was released May 6. The ruling junta had previously kept her under house arrest from 1989 to 1995. Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.
