Prosecutor in Inquiry of Lawyer’s Death Resigns
The prosecutor in charge of an investigation into the death of a well-known Mexican human rights lawyer has resigned under mounting criticism of his official report that she killed herself.
Prosecutor Renato Sales’ investigation concluded that lawyer Digna Ochoa took her life in October, when she was found dead in her office from gunshot wounds to the leg and head.
Ochoa had worked for the Miguel Agustin Pro Human Rights Center in Mexico City.
A note found near Ochoa’s body warned her former colleagues at the rights group, “If they continue, this will also happen to another.”
