U.S. Men Will Kick Off New League

The U.S. men’s water polo team will play Croatia tonight at 7 in the opener of the new FINA World League at the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center, water polo’s national training center.

Eight national teams will participate in the inaugural season, with the finals Aug. 1-4 at Patras, Greece. The U.S. has been grouped with Croatia, Hungary and Russia. Teams in the other group are Brazil, Greece, Italy and Spain.

The U.S. will play Croatia again at 5 p.m. Saturday, then will meet Russia at 6:30 p.m. on July 4 and at 7 p.m. on July 6, also at Los Alamitos.

The U.S. ends its half of the home-and-home schedule with two games against Hungary in Moraga, Calif., before traveling to Europe for games in Russia, Croatia and Hungary.

Two-game tickets for each of the series against Croatia and Russia are $25 for adults, $18 for youth.
