The primary election is Tuesday. Votes will be cast in federal, state, county and local contests as well as on statewide and local issues.

* Voting hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To find your polling place, call the Orange County registrar of voters at (714) 567-7600. The information is also available online at the registrar’s Web site, www.oc.ca.gov/election. Click on the “polling places” button. A map showing your polling place is also available, along with a sample ballot.

* Sample ballots mailed to registered voters indicate polling places. If you registered recently, you should have received a postcard confirming your registration and indicating your polling place. If you did not, contact the registrar.

* Absentee ballots must be received by the registrar’s office--1300 S. Grand Ave., Building C, Santa Ana--or by any polling place by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Directions to the registrar’s office are available on the Web site. If you cannot return the ballot personally, you may designate only a spouse, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, child or grandchild to do so on your behalf.

* Emergency absentee ballots are issued on election day and during the six preceding days. These ballots cannot be issued by mail. To obtain an emergency absentee ballot, go to the registrar’s office or send an authorized representative. For this purpose your representative need not be a relative.

The emergency voting application is also available on the Web site.
