Medical Malpractice
Re “Physicians Fold Under Malpractice Fee Burden,” March 4: So physicans in Nevada and other states are closing their practices and hospitals are closing their trauma centers due to increases in the cost of malpractice insurance. Insurance cost increases are due in large measure to a glut of lawsuits. Obviously, this makes the public worse off: There will be fewer physicans and trauma centers to provide vital services. Of course, the physicans are worse off as well. But at least the rapacious lawyers are better off--thanks once more to our bottom-feeding friends in the legal profession.
