Mother of Boy ‘Genius’ Admits Errors in Court

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — A woman who has acknowledged that she falsified records to help her 8-year-old son gain fame as a genius with an IQ test score of 298 has admitted in court she created an “injurious environment” for her child.
Elizabeth Chapman’s admission came Friday in a dependency and neglect case brought by Broomfield County, precluding a trial that had been scheduled for March 18. The hearing in Broomfield District Court was closed to the public, but the court issued a statement.
Chapman declined to comment after the hearing. County child welfare officials also would not comment.
Chapman, 29, hospitalized her son Justin in November after what she feared was a suicide attempt. Broomfield County removed the boy from her care and charged her with neglect.
She admitted she rigged his intelligence test results and that she falsified other records.
