Scaffolding Crash Under Investigation
Investigators worked to determine why scaffolding outside the John Hancock Center building in Chicago fell more than 40 floors during a windstorm, killing three women in cars.
Sections of broken scaffolding held by cables from the top of the building had been secured Sunday.
The scaffolding crashed to the ground Saturday afternoon as 58 mph winds whipped the area, the National Weather Service said.
The three women killed were Nanatta Cameron, 39, of Chicago; Melissa Cook, 29, of Chicago; and Jill Semplinski-Nelson, 27, of Olathe, Kan., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
